Assetto Corsa F1 League – What we’ve learned so far

We’ve now completed 5 of our Shakedown events so it’s probably a good time to stop and reflect on what we’ve learned so far.

The ACF1 Car

Version 2.0 offers a reliable and stable platform for racing. We’ve found that exciting, close racing is entirely possible and although collisions are more costly than in the arcadey Codemasters’ series, it doesn’t detract from the enjoyment. We anticipate that v2.5 will be our final major revision with small incremental tweaks after that.

The League Format

As the ACF1 car seems predictable and drivable we’ll be sticking with our policy of banning traction control and ABS but allowing stability control. We’re yet to evaluate damage resulting from crashes/collisions which remains on our to-do list.

The race day is still to be confirmed, but it will likely be at the weekend. The league sign up post can be found here.

Penalties

We have a great deal of trust in the racers within our community, but it’d be remiss of us not to put some measures in place to make sure no one is unfairly advantaged or disadvantaged when it comes to corner cutting. We’re looking at producing an adapted version of a client side app to keep an eye on any serious track-limit violations. Meanwhile our stewarding system from F1 will be maintained for investigating other incidents.

Dedicated Server

Our dedicated server has proven to be very reliable. To reduce latency it’ll be moved to a Tier-1 Datacenter in the next week or two, ready for league racing.

Statistics

We’ve been trialling the use of stracker which gives us a unique viewing platform into the data collected by the server. We’re deep into a project that will bring that data back to our website in real time, with lap-times and results reconciled directly against our league events.

Drivers

Finally, our recruitment drive continues. We’ll continue to promote our league to reliable and sensible racers – our concern has never been with the outright pace of an individual, but rather their approach to clean and fair racing. If you know of anyone who fits the profile then put them in touch!
